Ingredients

  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 oz dark chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp salted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, chopped
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9x9 inch pan with parchment paper. Melt butter and 3/4 cup chocolate chips in the microwave. Stir in sugar and vanilla.
  2. Whisk eggs in a separate bowl until bubbly, then whisk into chocolate mixture until thick and glossy. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Spread into pan and bake 15-20 minutes until just set.
  3. Arrange dark chocolate pieces over the baked brownie layer.
  4. Whisk brown sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 egg yolk until pale. Add maple syrup, cream, melted butter, and vanilla. Fold in chopped pecans. Pour filling over the pre-baked brownie.
  5. Bake 30-35 minutes until just barely set on top. Let cool, then slice into 16 bars.
