One-Pan Mongolian Beef Noodles with Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 4 instant noodle cakes (ramen), uncooked
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin (or Chinese cooking wine + 2 tsp sugar)
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 onion, halved and sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 5 cups broccoli florets, cut small
  • 2 1/4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce ingredients (dark soy sauce, hoisin sauce, mirin, five spice, sesame oil) in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large deep pan over high heat. Add garlic and onion, cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until no longer red.
  3. Pour the sauce over the beef and stir until all the beef is coated. Add broccoli and stir to coat in the sauce.
  4. Add the water and bring to a simmer. Break noodle cakes in half and push into the liquid. Leave for 30 seconds, then turn the noodles. Leave another 30 seconds, then toss for 2-3 minutes until noodles are soft and all sauce is absorbed. Serve immediately.
